Crock Pot Cornbread Dressing
I'm going to make this for the first time this Thanksgiving.

I've never made dressing in the crock pot but this recipe sounds great & has good reviews. Let us know how it turns out. Dressing is my favorite part of the thanksgiving meal!

I have never made a crock pot dressing. When I make my dressing, I saute all the raw vegetables in butter before adding them to the crumbled cornbread. I, also, boil my eggs before adding, so everything is cooked before I start. I, also, add a lot of deboned, chopped, rotisserie chicken to the mixture so that it is a complete meal. This means that all it has to do in the oven is set up and brown a bit on the top. That takes me about 1.5 to 2 hours. "It's a big pot." Much faster than a crock pot but the crock pot has the advantage of keeping the dressing hot while you are serving it. One thing I saw in the recipe that I might try is using the cream of chicken soup as part of the liquid. The ingredients are what I call the "normal" ingredients for dressing, so should be good. Let us know how it turns out.

Thank you for the link. I will definitely try this next week. My father-in-law was the master at making our Thanksgiving dressing but he is now unable to do so. Still undecided if I will go with the crock pot or the oven. Again, thanks for the recipe - it looks delicious.

I will wait for all your reviews and hope they turn out to be good. It would make dressing really simple to make and serve.

It looks good! Please let us know if you like it. Read the reviews for cooking times and temps as they might need adjusting.
I like a crunchy brown topping. This is my go-to recipe every year. I add a pound of cooked and drained hot sausage to the mix. Easy and done! http://www.bellsfoods.com/products/t...onal-stuffing/ |
I have put my dressing in the crockpot for the last 5 years---use my own recipie--put in the crockpot on low--the moistest dressing ever---and with space in the oven at a premium it is perfect!!!
|
I know that a crockpot would keep it moist but wondering about the browned crunchy top parts?
|
This turned out wonderful! I used a Jiffy corn muffin mix but next time will not....it adds sweetness.
|
LavenderBlue how did the top turn out. A couple of Christmases ago I to used Jiffy and the sweetness was not a success - so won't use it again either. Live and learn. LOL
