Tumbler Love Affair

share your own, would love to see more!

Up until I met Tumblers via Bonnie Hunters leader ender challenge I'd never made the same quilt twice. I'm on my fourth tumbler :) My current leader ender is pink/black/white and I'm just starting to assemble the strips this week.

You can adapt a number of rulers to use for tumblers, I didn't have any that went from wide to narrow so purchased a Marti Michell one. A ruler specific to tumblers has a notch in one corner so you get the correct offset, so when you open the patches to press they are straight across top and bottom.
That is the the only tip you really need to know about making them so have added a couple of examples. These are made from 2.5" squares, and the little trim bit is literally only a few threads but make all the difference in the finished product for me.

The one with black sashing was the first, only have this in progress photo
have no photo of the 2nd
the third is the bed runner with left over fabrics Rob brought from Australia and New Zealand, backed by mystery quilt leftovers
the fourth is the beginning assembly of the pink/black/white one. Love this pattern :)

edited for spelling

I have done Tumblers several times. This is the first. I named it "Iced Tea Anyone?". My quilting is slices of lemon and pitchers. My sister gave me the pine needle fabric. I love it.

Yours is really pretty.

Cute tumblers! That little ruler makes the job easier and more accurate for sure.

These are great. I should make some … I recently purchased fabric that would look great in this pattern …

Cool to see how one simple pattern can be so rich in the variations.:o

What a neat leader/ender project, Kalama! Love your examples. You are so right about Marti Michell's templates with the corner notches that make piecing easier and neater. I used MM's Kaleido ruler in cutting out Deep Purple.
Years ago, Marti came to our guild and did a trunk show for us. She was so friendly and personable.
