Kitchen Sink Salad

DD gave me this recipe. It has no name so I gave it one for the variety of ingredients.

Dressing:
2 cups Miracle Whip (not mayonnaise)
3/4 cup sugar (I cut this down to 1/2 cup)
1 Tblsp. Vinegar
1 Tblsp. Prepared mustard
black pepper - to taste
Lowrey’s Seasoned salt - to taste
Mix above and set aside.

1 can French style green beans - drain well
1 can diced carrots - drain well
1 can red kidney beans - drain well
1 package frozen peas - thawed somewhat
1 cup chopped celery
1/2 cup chopped onion
1 cup diced pepper - any color
diced ham - optional
sliced black olives - optional
7 oz box ring macaroni (cook & fold in last with vegetables)

I drain vegetables twice, using paper towel to line colander 2nd time. Use your biggest bowl & combine all. Refrigerate overnight.

What is 'Miracle Whip'? i see this item fairly often on recipes posted on this forum, but I have no idea what it is. Some sort of chemically made dressing?

Many people think of it as mayo. To me is too vinegary. These days my husband does most of the shopping and I always caution him not to get miracle whip, that I want mayo. The Kraft Miracle Whip is usually shelved right next to the mayo.

I just bought my son some Miracle Whip. i had to ask him if it was in a bottle. he said the squeeze one was what he wanted. it is like Mayonnaise for sure. I don't care either which one i have.

Unlike Mayo Miracle Whip is not made with eggs. It has less fat.

Miracle Whip is sweet. It looks like Mayo but doesn't taste like it.
I have never developed a taste for it. But a lot of people like it.
One time I had lunch with a good friend when our kids were little and she made tuna salad with Miracle Whip. I could hardly get it down but I didn't want to offend!!

Ha! Ha! This is the one area where my husband and I disagree and neither one of us will budge! He is staunchly Miracle Whip and I am equally a Best Foods Mayo person. Long, long ago I started buying both of them; his sandwich gets Miracle Whip mine Mayo. Things such as deviled eggs or egg salad get a mixture of both so we each find a taste of our favorite.

It looks just like mayonnaise but has a "stronger" taste- either people love it or hate it. Either can be used in a recipe.

Guess I'm in the minority but I like Miracle Whip better than mayo. I think it tastes sweeter and I have a real bad "sugar gene"!

SusieQOH 06-26-2019 04:08 AM

That's because it is sweeter :)

We bought Hellman's for years but now we get Vegannaise at Whole Foods. Tastes good.
