Endless (almost) project

Wanted to share what I am currently working on. In an effort to downsize my sewing fabrics, I am making a charm quilt out of my 2 1/2 inch squares. These squares I always cut after finishing a quilt from the smaller pieces of fabric leftover. I was moving along pretty good when I happened upon another tote (blue) full of more 2 1/2 squares. Geez a bigger undertaking than I thought. It is kind of a mindless relaxing project so I will keep going. Every square brings back memories of projects I have made throughout the years so "when/not if" I complete the quilt, it will be called my Memory quilt. I know it is not a true charm quilt as I use many of the pieces more than once. I am sewing the squares together on my white Featherweight, but joining the strips with my larger Janome. There are 46 squares per row so it is going to be a queen size.

Very pretty charm quilt. Charm quilts sometimes are more precise than other quilt. I like your layout.

It is going to be charming even if it isn’t a true charm quilt! Look forward to seeing it next year.:D

Good for you! Last year I found my stash of Y2K squares that had never been used so I decided to use them. And then I realized I could spend the rest of my quilting career doing nothing but putting 2.5" squares together which while some people find rather appealing, somewhat scared me and I sent all the rest of my squares and 2.5" strips to others.

I have a fairly large stash and I mostly quilt in scrappy style, but storing all these little strips was getting to me. I decided I don't want to save anything smaller than 6.5" and I found a crumb quilter here on the board who will take my scraps and cutting errors :) I keep a box by my cutting area and simply fill it up and send it when full.

That is going to be a very pretty memory quilt.

That sounds like fun and adding your FW to it makes it more so. I love how it's coming along.

Have you seen the free patterns at Quilted Twins? They may make you think twice about giving away your 2.5"s... They have tons of patterns for scrappy quilting, all beautiful.

P.S. You are about to run out of thread!

What a nice gift you received. Your work looks so nice. You will have a lot of fun telling people about your Memory Quilt since the fabrics have their own story to tell.
