Wedding quilt

2 of my sisters are coming to visit is August. The one sister has a daughter engaged to be married next summer. We have talked about sewing while they are here. I suggested a quilt for the new couple. I’ve been looking at patterns. I’m up for even a very challenging quilt. The second sister can keep up. The third sister made me a blouse when I was pregnant (41 years ago) and handed to me 1/2 done. Said she couldn’t do the sleeves. She made a quilt for my daughter’s first son. Sent it to me in pieces. Yes, I finished her projects. I need a pattern simple enough that I can fix her mistakes and complex enough to suit me. She suggested a double wedding ring. ? I spent 6 months piecing a DWR top. And ideas??

Yup. Have the "non-sewer" pay for the fabrics and admire your work.

Not all wedding quilts need to be wedding ring ones. Go for what you want to make. i'm sure everyone will be happy.

This is a DWR with a difference, and should be rather to do, even without having a pattern.

Summer Wedding quilt

and a different version here
reversed colours

also there is an easier method, using strips. I think it was made by Cheryl Philips

Oh my, what a pickle. I like bearisgray's suggestion. Or maybe decide to go with foundation piecing and spend your time together teaching her how to do it?

Alternatively, you could suggest that something like "Lovers Knot" or an earlier version of "Wedding Ring" is more conducive to a long-distance group effort?

Storm at sea is pretty impressive and not really that hard. I think it would make a lovely wedding quilt. I am not a big “hearts” person, but if you desire, there are SOS patterns with hearts of all kinds on them.

Perfect!

That Summer Wedding pattern is just what I've been looking for! Thanks for suggesting it.

This is what we made for our niece’s wedding gift. It has the illusion of curves but it’s all straight piecing. I saw it on F & P. Liz made it for her daughter as a wedding gift.

Good idea!!! .... but to keep sewing you will need someone to keep cooking, making snacks and tea, serving wine ..... and to run the iron!!! Pressing alone can keep her real busy and let her be an important part in making the quilt.

Maybe get input from the Bride as to what design she wants, and what colours/fabrics?
Could avoid the risk of a disappointed Bride ... and worse the disappointed Aunties and Mom if she doesn't go ooolalalaaaa when the big reveal happens.

Thanks for the input. It’s funny. My sister has sewn since she was a kid. Just like the rest of us girls. She just continues to sew things together funny.
I really like the Storm at Sea idea. The bride’s favorite colors are blue and green. So that’s what we will work on. I will send my other sister the Fons and Porter pattern for her opinion.
