Needle threaders
I do a lot of English paper piecing and I use 15 milliner needles and the eye is pretty tricky to thread. I have yet to find a needle threader to work in there. The last one I tried, the needle threader will go into the eye, but when you try to pull the threader and thread out, it won't go through or it breaks.
Does anyone know of a good needle threader for small eyes that actually works? |
I found one that works beautifully at a cross stitch store, it is very small.
You might try kind of holding the thread above the needle threader, instead of parallel with it, so that it doesn't compete for space with the threader as it goes through the eye. Clear as mud? To be honest, if that doesn't work, I think you might have to find a different needle to use, those milliner needles have super tiny eyes. |
You might like to try this product from Lee Valley Tools - I have one but I have put it in a safe place, apparently - if I can track it down I'll try it with a tiny-eyed needle to check and report back.

I've used the Clover needle threader on needles with very small eyes.

I haven't tried this, but I've heard it works....for a machine needle, you would thread the needle before putting it in the machine.

I use Richard Hemming & Son Large eye milliners needles for hand sewing. Even though they are "large eye" I can not thread them by hand, vision problems. I use the Bohin needle threader and it works every single time. It is a "desktop" type similar to Clovers but it works every single time.
I bought it from Amazon. |
I also use the Bohin needle threader. It has two sides, one for very small eyes.

I have the same one as Dunster and love it.

I have tried the Clover needle threader (I actually have 2 of them). Sometimes they work, sometimes not. It seems if I have a clover needle they work better.
|
My experience with the Clover needle threader, is that it works for the first few tries, and then after that, I can't get it to thread anything. :(
