What Are We Organizing Today 2023

Hey all,
Happy New Year
Here's the new thread.

Anyone have any special goals for the coming year?

I want to come up with a better arrangement of my studio space- and that will probably entail getting rid of some things. This is something that I am notoriously bad at, so will be looking for lots of support as I start the New Year with some decluttering in here.

Right now my goals are going to be tied in to the Fabric Moratorium ideals, I think. I need to be creative when working with the fabric I have because I don't have much that naturally "goes together" as if I were working with a single collection or designer. The "small bins for small scraps" solution I implemented last year has definitely helped a bit with this and I think at some point I would like to see if I can do a better job of organizing my larger pieces of fabric, too. I'm sure if I could clear out some of my stash I would find it easier to organize what's left!

I am starting a scrap quilt using the Crazy Creative Grid rulers that a QB member sent me last year. I have already used it to make a blue mixed quilt but this one will be scraps. I hate when 2 scraps the same are right next to each other when the blocks are sewn together, so I think I will do each block a different colour rather then mixed. No pressure just an enjoyable digging through my scrap stash quilt top.

I'm going to try to start off with the Just Get it Done Quilts challenge. Today is 15 min to pick up and throw away trash, unneeded packaging, etc.

I love organizing. If it is not in it's place, I cannot find it. I'm horrible at wasting time looking for something that should be in it's place. It's easier and faster to just put it away.

I look forward to seeing how you organize your space. My room is only 10 x 13 foot room. Which is actually a pretty good size. And, I don't have to share it with anyone! I am so fortunate. It really only has 2 walls with which to display things. And, I've had to get creative with that. Because one has an Ikea shelving unit on it and i use the other for my design wall and storage under it. My closet, which is a double closet holds 2 dressers with my stash and batting, stabilizers and embroidery supplies. One dresser holds my scraps and the others holds the rest. The window wall holds a small built in underneath and the same wall which has a 1/2 wall holds a small hanging TV. Underneath the TV is another Ikea closet that holds Quilting misc. stuff. I would eventually like it to just hold finished quilts. I'll get there. Still in the process of dealing with scraps and UFO's which are taking up space in there right now. I don't have any over flow. My room now house everything in one room.

I did a huge clean out right before Christmas and donated a ton of stuff including about 20 tall kitchen bags of fabric. Amongst other craft items also. (I couldn't afford to mail to anyone.) My favorite thrift store is hospice run. So, didn't mind donating. I just had tooooo much. It was paralyzing to me. I was so overwhelmed with stuff.

My sewing room houses all my craft items. Needlework, Knitting, Painting, and sewing, and dolls and doll crafting supplies. So, I downsized in every craft so that I could actually fit in my room with all my stuff. lol

I'll have to figure out how to upload photos. Photos are so much fun.

I love her declutter challenge - she has such an upbeat attitude and makes anything seem possible. She is also very real- admits when things go wrong for her. Great quilter to follow.

Happy New Year.
my initial goals are to organize and donate a substantial amount of fabric and to clear the horizontal surfaces, especially the cutting table, of the piles of supplies.

Great pics, and workable space!

I noticed your ribbon stash. Have you considered using paper towel holders, with a dowel rod to thread through the spools? Mounted to a wall with the command hook tape?
Another option may be wire slack hangers (with the cardboard tubes)? They can hang anywhere.

Thats a great Idea. Some of your suggestions would make pulling of the spool so much easier. Now to come up with a way to hang it. Maybe i will take down my design wall. I don't really use it because it is behind me. Not very benificial.
