Straight stitch, light weight machine

What is your all time fav straight stitch, light weight, manual sewing machine?

I’m sure feather weight Singer is #1. Now think deeper and add #2.

A second question is similar. What is your favorite sewing machine for taking to group sewing? OK, now give #2.

I am enjoying my Baby Lock Joy. Lightweight. Stitches aren't perfectly straight like the featherweight stitches. Slight offset on one end. Easy to thread, super small throat so not for quilting; just piecing or quilting small 12" blocks. Price point is under $300. If you have a big box store they probably have a lightweight equivalent for under $200. I am hoping that the Joy will be longer lasting than my big box store Singer. Time will tell. But a lightweight for taking to meetings was critical so I settled on the Joy after playing with the multiple brand options at my LQS. It sang to me as I pressed along.

I have a Kenmore mechanical that is really a Janome inside. Just love that little workhorse.

All I need is my featherweight. I do my main sewing on my Bernina but it is too heavy to move.

Actually I prefer my Singer 301 to my featherweight.

I have my little FW that travels with me. I was able to get it for under $200.00 on Shopgoodwill.com. It's an auction site so you don't know right away if you won the auction or not. Also I bought one on EBay - that was because I didn't know how to get out of it once I was notified from Goodwill. So my sister ended up with that one. Both worked great. But go and test drive a few. My sister had a Brother machine that was considered a quilting machine, it came with the extension table and lasted her 20+ years. They still make it. I found it on Amazon. There are a lot out there. Let us know what you decide.

I can carry around my little Bernina 230. It really doesn't weigh any more than a featherweight.

I was just thinking of my 301. I like my FW's but the 301 is a great substitute.
