Virtual Quilting Retreats or Groups?
 

I may be the only one but I have no desire to attend a quilting retreat in person. The idea of packing everything up to take somewhere else so I can do exactly what I can do at home leaves me cold. Is anyone aware of any quilting groups that meet virtually? I think I would enjoy the camaraderie while sewing on my own project in my studio. Thanks for any help.

When I was making my Dear Jane the yahoogroup would have 3 day virtual retreats with raffles (my department), games, someone hosted uploading the blocks made, recipes, lots of off topic that wasn't the norm for the regular list.
There would be 7-800 emails in a weekend ;) Yes it was fun, even if it was the equivalent of olden days.

I think that happens here occasionally with a dedicated thread, but I don't know anything about those.

Raggiemom has a VQW on the board here once a month the next VQW is Feb 17-20th. It's just a check in to see what everyone is doing and we post pics and chat.

Yes, there is a virtual quilting weekend here on QB once a month,. It's hosted by Raggiemom. Sometimes if there's a holiday she holds a second one during the month. The link shows up on the main board when it's open.

Rob, I think we posted about the same time, great minds think alike? Next weekend I have a DH free evening so sewing! He's got a guy night, he's going to Monster Jam.

Have you ever been to a quilting retreat? It's really not all about the sewing. I get so inspired at a retreat and we are talking and laughing all day. Even with quilters I never met before. I find a retreat close to home I sign up usually don't know anyone there and that lasts about an hour. LOL I like doing sew along using zoom too. They both serve a purpose. I am so glad we have choices.

I have returned to in-person quilt retreats and although the groups are smaller it is all about sharing ideas, building friendships, helping each other out when we are "stuck" and the pleasure of being with other quilters. Of course it is work to pack up and go, but 2 to 3 days in a new environment helps with focus and seeing others work builds creativity. I generally take two projects. One that is kitted up and ready to go from start to finish. The second is often something that I want to finish that needs my attention, perhpaps a UFO or a Work In Progress. (WIP) It is way to easy to take to much and end up with nothing finished.

I do a once a week virtual quilting afternoon that started during COVID and we just can't stop. We enjoy each other's company, family life, new projects and of course a few stumbles. We just like talking as friend will do and the silence that is filled with machines humming and whoo-hoo's when something is finished. Others are welcome and a few do join in from time to time but the core group is three with 2 or three others that join in now and again. So if you do not find what you want online, create your own.

PS. I do line the Virtual Quilt Weekends here too. Such fun too see not just finished projects but progress on projects. No pressure but lots of opportunity to chat as desired.

I've never felt the need to go to an in-person quilting retreat or even belong to a guild. I like the relaxing quiet of me, myself and I, in my quilting room. When I quilt, which I do everyday, I just want to quilt with no constant distractions or anything drawing away my attention from what I'm working or thinking on.

At times, I do like watching a video on how to do a technique or pattern, but I don't want to be injected into it, like a live YouTube or virtual quilting session.
