Cutting Question

I need to cut strips that are 1 inch wide (finish at 1/2 inch). Is it better to cut them selvage to selvage or cut end to cut end (horizontal to selvage)?

Thanks for your input.

For me it would depend on the print of the fabric when cutting strips, but if using plain non printed fabric I would go selvage to selvage. With strips that small it really wouldn't matter.

If I know the length of the pieces, aka 12 inches, icut a strip 12 inches wide salvage to salvage and thencut into 1 inch strips. The reason is the stripes are less stretchey.

Fabric stretches a little selvage to selvage, but not parallel/lengthwise. That might make a difference in distortion when sewing and pressing.

That's my thinking. The length of the strip and length of fabric is also a consideration. If I need long strips, I cut them lengthwise to avoid having to piece.
