LeMoyne Stars, the inset way

1 Attachment(s)
Anyone got experience sewing up LeMoyne stars the traditional way with inset seams? I like that the diamonds are all one piece as well as the corner squares.

I want to learn to do them this way and would like to know which tutes are best for demonstrating how to sew them up, inset seams and all!

This looks like Jenny’s Rhombus Star-
I used this template when I made mine here, but I don’t think this is the Lemoyne Star….

Google YouTube for Jenny Doans Lemoyne Star- I know she has a tutorial I’ve seen before
She also has this one I made but she called it Rhombus Star.

There is a tutorial for the LeMoyne Star block which requires eight Y seams at https://piecemealquilts.com/2014/03/...-lemoyne-star/ It looks like the tutorial is for a block that would work for the BOOM swap https://www.quiltingboard.com/vbulle...a-t321239.html

I found this you-tube www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6t5OCuMloA It is from LearnHowToQuilt.com I made one with Y seams years ago and this looks familiar. It was time consuming but the it worked.
If you go to the website she has a lot of free tutorials on stuff. If you find the link for Quilting Classes and click on it and scroll down until you find Beginner quilts and click on the "Star Sampler Quilt" click on that and stars 22 & 23 are the Videos for this star.

The blue and yellow block posted above doesn't look like it should be called Lemoyne Star due to fabric placement. There is different contrast shown in other pictures for the Lemoyne block.

To sew Y seams, just stop sewing 1/4 inch before the intersection of the next fabric. Lock the stitch or back stitch to hold the seam.

There is a video here for the die. The pieces and units are sewn together without Y seams.

sewingpup that was a great instructional video!

Rhonda, I want a LM star that is sewn with Y seams, no half square triangles, but you are right, a LeMoyne star should be sewn with variation in colour of the star blades!

Alex Anderson did an 8 part video series 10 years ago that is still on Youtube, very well done although I wish they would film it again in high definition!

I love Carol Thelans tutorials for blocks, https://youtu.be/y3AbkIErmZA.

So the block shown does not have Y seams?

This video for Y seams was recommended to me:

Without a doubt, the absolute BEST tutorial for doing LeMoyne star is Edyta Sitar's. She demonstrates it in many of her books (with loads of pictures) as well as having a youtube video. I think Fat Quarter Shop published it. Look for Edyta Sitar 8 point star tutorial. I believe it is in two parts. I consider myself a very experienced and advanced quilter. Since switching to her method my enjoyment and accuracy of piecing these has increased tremendously. I didn't use the video, I used the instructions found in her book Scrappy Fireworks Quilts.
