an "L" shaped ruler for sewing and quilting? Or do I use one from the hardware store. That's what I've been using to square up my fabric yardage before I start any cutting. It's a heavy metal one.

Any ideas?

That's what I use, my late DH's square for cutting wood. No way will I be able to ruin THIS one!!! After I washed it, worked nicely and it is good for such a LONG piece of fabric.

That's a good question, never thought about using one from the hardware store.

I got one at Harbor Freight!

I also bought a L ruler from the hardware store to use for apparel pattern making - it is a bit ackward. The first site is for a light weight alunimum one and the second site is for the apparel sewing-much more expensive. Since I sew a lot of garments, I invested in the second one that also has other rulers for pattern making.

Well, maybe not so dumb after all, huh?

Now to find that elusive mini crossed shaped ruler for centering!!

I use the 2-ruler method that I saw on a quilt show one time.

Line up your long ruler in the north/south direction, and then use a smaller/chunky ruler (mine is 6x9) in the east/west direction. Works for me.

I am such an A type personality, I want things just so!! Drive ME crazy sometimes and that's bad!!

Seems like it wouldn't be too difficult to make and sell us quilters an L-shaped ruler like the carpenter rulers.
