Why are threads concerning copyrights and members opinions and comments being closed? It seems this subject is suddenly taboo. Why? I was in hobby lobby today and looked through a new issue of a popular magazine and saw three patterns clearly made from public domain blocks, one was hole in the wall and it even stated 12 hole in the wall blocks were used, one was ocean waves, can't remember the other right now. They had persons listed as designers. How can they do that and then cite copyright? As of now my solution to this is: for the rest of this year at least I WILL NOT buy another pattern, magazine, or quilting book. I am going to use only public domain blocks or design my own.

They can claim copy right all they want, but the fact remains that not every pattern someone puts their name on can be copy written.

threads are being closed if the discussion gets too negative or full of rants or off topic as outlined in the forum guidelines

It seems much confusion was created when this blogger's article was endorsed as a "must read"

the confusion is created when people who don't want to understand or comply with copyright muddle what starts as a constructive conversation with their own opinions instead of facts.

the laws are what they are.
complaining about them does not help others understand them.

i will close this thread because if i don't, it will surely be followed by a lot of useless protest and argument.
