I think shopping while on vacation can be excused- when you are in an area that isn't your home stomping-grounds, who knows what kind of local treat you might find! Maybe there's a store that features hand-dyed fabric by a local artisan? You'd miss out if you didn't go look!

Yeah, yeah, enabler, I know. I told my husband that I'm trying not to buy fabric except for special orders this year, and his reply was 'You mean I don't get to go to fabric stores with you anymore??' Yes, you read that right. My hubby *likes* to go to the fabric store!! He's part of the reason I have so many fabrics I haven't used yet...

What a lucky gal you are...and I imagine aren't we all, to have hubbys who put up with our quilting addiction.

I have an enabler in my house too!!! Whenever we take a road trip somewhere, there is always a list of quilt shops to visit and it isn't in my handwriting!!!

Well.......was a bad girl today....I purchased the fabric to make tops for 2 quilts for a graduation gift and for one of my grandbabies...in my defense, I didn't have these fabrics in my stash...the graduation girl saw one I had made before and loved it, so I decided to make hers the same..10 of my grands have their quilts made, and I always let them pick out the fabrics- so I had to take this one for the same special shopping trip..The good part was I used a coupon for everything, and the tops will cost me about $20 each. I already have the batting here, as well as backing...To top it off, the gentleman cashier told me I got an extra 20% off today..When I got home and looked at my receipt, I realized he gave me a senior discount!! In actuality, I have a few years before 60, but who's to complain...So I will be busy and stay out of trouble for a while!!

Those aren't stash purchases, unless you don't make the gifts. I'd have been upset if someone thought I was 60 if I wasn't, but that's just me. Around here, cashiers in any store aren't allowed to offer senior discounts - apparently there have been hurt feelings at some point. You have to ask for the discount.

Yes, we are lucky in that respect. My boyfriend just says something along the lines of it's good we can afford it & off I go. He has never said anything about what I buy, just how I've stored it. I haven't yet had the time to work out a stash storage method. I'm a management accountant, so I'm still in the throes of year end for 1 of my clients, who was forced to do a software conversion as of 12/1 that didn't go well. I have to say that it has kept me from going fabric shopping though!

I didn't mind the extra discount~~ it's 4 Years away, and being on disablity, I am happy to save every penny I can! THe fabric will definitely be used as the grandbaby will drive me nuts until I get her's done!!

I agree about this moratorium. I am only buying for the quilts I have to make this year and that I don't have in my stash. But not going into fabric store and just buying something because I like it. Am looking in my stash for backings that might work though before I go buy anything. Still nice to have this support group. :-)
