You can join at any time- no need to wait for 2014..and no worries about being able to stand it...It seems that creative members of this challenge can come up with an excuse for every purchase!!

So far I have stayed away from estate sales because they usually revolve around someone having moved on and I find the sales very sad.

Martina: I agree, estate sales can be very sad. The reason I do go to them is that in their place I would much rather my treasured stash go to someone to enjoy, then into a land fill. I went to one not to long ago, it was being given by the women's two sons, both in their 60s. They told me their mother had been in her 90s when she passed. She was still living in her own home and had a group of ladies over every week to quilt and talk. The "boys" had over eighty of her quilts. Hard to feel sad for a woman that lived such a rich and full life.

Well, in my enthusiasm to use extra fabric on scrappy backings, I accidentally used the fabric I specifically needed for binding on a quilt I just finished. Of course I realized this when the quilt was about 3/4 quilted, so I've got a scrap of it and I'm heading to the LQS this morning, hoping they still have some in stock. I'll only need 1/2 yard though so I'm giving myself a pass. The worst part is, I could have used the leftovers of maybe 10 other pieces of fabric that were in that quilt. I guess I really am drawn to that particular fabric...

Nilla, fabric purchases to complete projects are 'free'. It's stash building I know I am trying to avoid. That's why I have avoided going after the 1/2 yard of red I need for my B/W quilt during the month long sale. Sales are such enablers for me.

Martina, when my children have my final fabric sale, I will be smiling down to see my precious fabrics go to a new home. Around here 'Estate sales' are held when someone downsizes so there isn't always a death involved.

Found a bunch of ties at the local thrift shop--does this count for or against my stash?

That makes me feel a little better. What was annoying was that I had specifically set this fabric aside for the binding, then used it in the backing. Luckily, they did still have it in stock. Now I just have to find the time to finish it and get it in the laundry.

ok, yep, unless you are going to wear them or sew them into a quilt immediately. Tomorrow's the 31th - the last day of the sale.
