MadQuilter, very well said. A couple weeks ago my DH and I went on a few days away and I was in the area of quilt shops. Something I don't have around our home. I was feeling kind of bad about making purchases, but you stated so nicely that we don't have to stop buying completely. I have already started one of the kits I purchased. It is great having this thread. Makes me think about my purchases and if I really need the fabric.

Today I went to Missouri Star quilt company, and bought a few items. I bought backing fabric and border fabric for a QB mystry quilt #7. Then I bought more fabric for another quilt to enlarge the size. I was only going to make a throw, but then decided to enlarge the quilt. Then I bought background batik fabric for a project for the future. And finally I bought border floral fabric to complete my QB floral monthly block swap from November. Most of my purchases will be used to finish 3-4 different quilts. I don't consider my self jumping off the wagon, just buying fabric to finish projects I started. I'll crawl back on the wagon mid April. I have another minor shop hope the 2nd weekend of April.

Instead of piecing backing from the stash I caved and bought a nice piece of wide backing for the Big red mini quilt. All the seams on the front will nest nicely on a smooth backing.

So far so good. Haven't fallen off the wagon - or out of it. I've been deleting fabric sellers emails as they come in, and it is Oh So Hard not to peek at what they have for sale. I thought I was done in with the Connecting Threads new purple and green fabric line. My favorite color combo. But I have been strong (sob, sob) and have actually used some of my stash. Was in a brown bag round robin with my quilt group, and was so pleasantly surprised that I had some great fabric in my stash to use. Pieced a wall hanging kit that I bought from Keepsake a cpl yrs ago. I have to say that my arm is sore from reaching around to pat myself on the back. Can't get too cocky...The wagon sides are low.

You did great, grammo. Consider yourself patted on the back from me as well. I write this as I am scoping out quilt stores in Santa Cruz. We are visiting friends in that area tomorrow and I don't even feel like being strong. Need some orange and green batiks so at least I have something in mind. At least it won't be a free-for-all. sigh

This was made from donated stash. Tomorrow it will leave my house and go into the church quilting box for the ladies to finish.

Yeah!

Connie

P.S. The pattern was for smaller squares but I adapted it to use precut 4" squares. Therefore, I only needed to use part of the pattern and I should have used more of the middle part so I could have had a completed diamond area. Oh well, live and learn!

Martina - have fun on your trip. It's nice just going to different quilt shops and seeing all the lovely quilts too.

Connie - very nice quilt. I like the layout - think I'll try that for a scrappy quilt.

grammyjo - I saw those fabrics and understand the temptation!

As for me, the going out of business sale didn't lure me away again. It did help that they didn't discount the fabric any farther. Since I struggled with those emails stating fabric sales, I've been deleting them as grammyjo has. I have started two quilts with using just my fabric stash so all around a very productive week for me in the moratorium department.

Oh yes that new line from CT is a real temptation. There in house designs are at such a good price that it really is hard to resist. Then when they go on sale forget it I'm in trouble.
Jo: Congrats on staying strong, even if a few tears were shed. It is amazing and even fun what can be found in the stash when its given half a chance.
Martina: Aren't you going on a mini vacation? Didn't we agree that vacation or traveling purchases were exempt? I think you should enjoy guilt free. Have fun. I love Santa Cruz!
Erin: Congrats on staying strong in the face of a sale and on top of that using stash.
That 20% coupon is looming large for me. Specially if there is something on sale I can use it with. Don't know if I'll make it through the weekend.

Yes, exactly! I bought some brick patterned fabric because it will go with my "manmade" theme so well.

Ladies, I have been on a fabric moratorium for a couple of years now. I only buy a piece if needed to finish a project. I've went from 2 rooms of fabric down to one and I am not embarrassed anymore by my fabric stash...which was beyond ridiculous. I will continue to use what I have and only buy a piece here and there to finish something. Good luck with your moratorium's this year. I will continue on mine.
