Default Stash-busting Challenge

Inspired by recent discussions about self- (or spouse-) imposed moratoriums on fabric purchases, I thought a stash-busting challenge would further support those of us seeking to shop (and quilt) from our stash. This challenge's purpose is to support us by celebrating every project that is born of one's stash. Photos are strongly encouraged.

Anyone can play-- whether or not you're on a fabric purchasing moratorium.

To qualify as a success, 90% of your finished project must be made from your stash. For quilts, this means 90% of your quilt TOP. (Although Challenge participants will receive extra points-- cheers and applause-- for projects that are 100% stash-produced.)

"Finished" means all the way done and ready to use.

Who's going to post their first "made from stash" photo?

Neat idea! I will be anxious to see what is created from our scraps!

Default Butterfly Block for Busting your Stash?

Now I know that stash-busting does not necessarily mean scrappy, but for those for whom it MIGHT mean that, I just received the following link from the Quilt Inspiration blog. I've never seen this pattern before-- and apparently it's been around long enough that someone has an antique quilt made with this pattern. I like that it's a) simple (pattern is included, scroll down to the bottom); b) looks traditional enough for my tastes; c) is also "abstract" in that it conveys butterfly without being cutesy; and d) could also be made as non-scrappy.

Check it out:

I'm in for one, well maybe two - goodness knows I have enough stash. Will post a pix of the first - my Asian Scrappy - made entirely from my stash - its at the quilters now. Just finished it. I'm putting it in my guild's show next month.

Way to go Jillaine! I love this idea, and when the young 'un is back at school I'll start a quilt just from stash. Thanks for organizing it.

Not sure where my post went. Jillaine, I clicked on the link below your name and posted. When I got back here, it isn't here? I'd like to be in the challenge in any case. Perhaps my post will show up somewhere, sometime......la la land
