Basting: After you layer the back, batting, and top of your quilt, it is then temporarily held together using large stitches, safety pins, or basting spray. This "quilt sandwich" is now ready to be quilted. Once the quilting is complete, the large basting stitches or pins are removed.
Batting: This is the stuffing that goes between the top and the back of your quilt. It can be polyester, wool, cotton or a cotton/polyester blend. Also called wadding in England.

Hello from Canberra in the Australian Capital Territory
Although I have been a sewer all my life I only started quilting back in 2008 following large doses of Alex Anderson's Simply Quilts. I was getting bored on either the second or third day of driving across Australia and purchased a stack of quilting magazines at 50c each. By the time I got home I had my first quilt planned and much of the fabric purchased.
