Default Ambrosia

2 (4 oz) cans mandarin oranges
1 (5.5 oz) can pineapple bits
1 cup sour cream
2 cups flaked coconut
2 cups miniature marshmallows
Drain fruit. combine fruit, marshmallows, coconut, and sour cream. Chill two hours before serving. I have also added marachino cherries, a package of jello mix and cool whip to this. Very good for a light dessert!

You have me drooling!!!!!!!!
I've always liked that one ... calorie free, of course!!

My recipe is called Five Cup Salad .... with one cup of each of the ingredients you listed, so a slightly different balance than yours. I usually add more marshmallows though and sometimes the cherries too!

Nuts can also add a nice twist to the old favourite.

One of my favourite desserts but it was called Honeymoon salad. Ours just had the first 5 ingredients. Okay, now I want some!

Same thing, only use 1 cup of each and then it's called, "5 cup salad." I don't use 1 cup of oranges or pineapple, but the small cans. Tasty! We serve it only on holidays, but it's a good quick thing to make for church dinners, too.

Thanks for the recipe. I use to buy this at a store deli. Now I can make it whenever I want to. I love it.

I have made this for years but now I change it to what is in the pantry. I add drained fruit cocktail and sliced peaches, some pecans add flavor and cherries add color. I pick up cans of some tropical fruit cocktail at Walgreens and that is good too. You don't have to add the sour cream all the time, sometimes vanilla or fruit flavored yogurt works good. I have chopped up apples and fresh oranges and added that, this is basically a fruit salad.

My mother always made a similar salad using maraschino cherries and pecans with all the ingredients you have above except she would leave out the mandarin oranges and use a naval orange cut into pieces. She didn't care for mandarin oranges and neither do I so I leave them out. I have adapted the recipe to use plain Greek yogurt in place of the sour cream to cut the calorie count down and can't tell the difference.

I like mine with whipped cream, the real stuff, no cool whip, and coconut. It makes it a bit sweeter and takes care of my sweet tooth in a healthier way.
