Default Spedini (sicilian meat on a stick)

Anyone here Italian and make these? I believe the name just means food on a stick! My husband is from Sicily. Anyway, this is the way we do it and I'm curious if/how others do it:

very thinly sliced sirloin tip steak, cut into strips about 2x6
breadcrumb mixture (breadcrumbs, grated romano cheese, garlic salt, pepper, pinch of oregano)
    raisins
soft tub margarine (that's what MIL used!)
bay leaves (I use Turkish ones)
onion cut into wedges, then cut in half horizontally
spedini sticks (they're similar to candy apple sticks)

Spread margarine generously on each piece of meat on both sides, dredge in crumbs, sprinkle each with a few raisins, roll up, thread onto sticks with bay leaf and a piece of onion at the beginning of each stick, separating each roll, and at the end of each stick. Usually 3 or 4 pieces fit on a stick.

To cook, we broil, sprinkling each with olive oil before broiling. Flip over halfway through. Broil until brown on both sides. They're good hot or cold.

Sorry I have no measurements. If I have leftover crumbs, I freeze and use in meatballs. About 1# of meat makes 3 sticks.

DH's aunt actually makes them totally different! Family recipes!

Those look really good, I love family recipes.

What would you serve with them?

I usually serve them with pasta, either with plain mainara or with garlic/olive oil. Also a salad and garlic bread. Some relatives make with thin slices of chicken or pork instead of beef.
