Under the heading of stinky stuff in the crock pot ....

There are a few smells that I do not want to live with in the house: sauerbraten, corned beef, you know what I mean. My crock pot resides on the top of the freezer in the garage (attached to the house) when I'm cooking those. Because we are in and out of the garage all day, enterprising critters leave it strictly alone. And the odor stays out there.

One problem, the neighbors show up and want to know, "When's dinner?"

I love carmelized onions, french onion soup, and roasted garlic so I feel like I just hit the bonanza today. Thanks to everyone!

Thank you for this today-Sunday. Last week food basics in Lindsay had 5 pounds of cooking onions for a dollar.
Everybody else was picking up a bag so I did too. Then thinking I only have a few weeks before we go south so
how can I ever use them up. Love french onion soup but a "HIGH" heat cooker too. so slow cooker idea is really appreciated. Not enough time to do for dinner tonight --oh well
Store had big bag of beets for a dollar too but didn't know until at the checkout. couldn't use them.

I can't imagine serving meatloaf without carmelized onions on top.

I make them in the crock pot all the time. You can freeze them, too, and just take out what you need at the moment.

[QUOTE=DJ;5549344] I put them on some swiss dip sandwiches (grilled hamburger with swiss cheese, grilled ciabatta rolls, carmamelized onions, ah jus). They were SO good!

I ordered one of these with my mouth drooling today at the golf course restaurant.
They forgot the onions! Such a disappointment. Really came out very bland. They offered to fry some onions but not the same so I didn't want that. our restaurant is not very good.......................

It seems there's a lot of onion lovers around the QB, here's another favourite of mine!

I just love how sweet these get when cooked.
