Corned Beef Recipe....need
#1
I need a really good recipe for Corned Beef and Cabbage. Our Bible group is going to have A St. Patricks Day theme dinner and of course I volunteered to make the Corned Beef but I haven't made it in years and years.
Looking for ideas...Thanks

There is a video and many recipes on Allrecipes.com you can check out. I don't follow any recipe exactly just throw enough potatoes, onion & carrots sometimes, and meat on top on that about a cup of water(some use beer) the spices from meat and slow cook on high 6- 8 hours. About an hour before we want to eat I cut my cabbage in wedges and put on top. The crock pot is a no fail way to go.

I found this recipe on this website. Whoever submitted it gave the credit to Paula Dean. It is delicious!
4 slices of bacon chopped. Cook until almost crisp. Remove bacon, leave drippings Add 4T butter (over medium heat). Chop a small head of cabbage (about 25 oz.) and add to pan with 1/3 cup water. Cover and cook about 10-15 min. 'till cabbage is tender. Add the bacon and a CAN of corned beef (break it up). Heat thru, uncovered.

Growing up my mom made corn beef and cabbsge, but the corned beef came from a can, not a slab of meat. We still make it this way. Cut up cabbage in wedges, quarter potatoes, crumble the canned corn beef, and add just enough water to cover potatoes. Salt, pepper and a big hunk butter, simmer until potaotes are done. I've made it in the crock pot, stove and microwave. Main thing is to not have too much water, but enough!

Okay, thanks everyone. I think I will go the slow cooker way, sounds really good. But I will have to check out the corned been in a can, I must be living in a bubble, having never seen that, or never looked. Could be interesting.

I cook the cornbeef in boiling water in which I've added some vinegar, sugar and herbs (either mixed or bay leaves or both). Having the meat hot is desireable, but you can let it cool in the water to enhance the flavour. Potatoes and then cabbage are added to the water when the meat is done (or nearly done).
Sorry I con't give you amounts of ingredients as I guess work it according to size of the meat.
