I'm sorry you're missing your mom today. Isn't it nice to have something like that cake to remind you of them? I have cried like a baby while sewing because it reminds me of my Grandmother was a seamstress for years and years.

Before it began to be very tired I would use her old kitchen mixer, which helped me feel closer to her when I cooked. And when I really miss her I wear her locket. I don't have many of her things, just the ones that make me feel most special, I supose I'm lucky that way.

So tell us, how did your cake turn out?

Oh that's great to hear. Perhaps your mom is always guiding your hand when you cook, or perhaps, from her you learned to be that good?

I have a similiar plant, a passion vine. We had it for years and nothing nada. Then my husband found a red passion vine clipping at buried it at the base of the original vine. Ever since it has bloomed every year. We think it just needed a friend.

We had a lilac when I was growing up, a huge old bush that would bloom every which way, covered in blooms that could be smelled all over the property. I think they need to be a certain age before they bloom, but perhaps you just needed the reminder of the beauty of your mom.

The cake sounds good! I'll try it at work on Friday night. Even tho I work in the ER, when it gets slow we have a little oven that we create treats in.
As for missing your mom, and on your birthday no less! (Happy Birthday). It's wonderful that you have such fine memories, complete with tastes. I love using family recipies.
