What do yopu make with fresh pears? My Moms tree has lots this year, hate for them to go to waste. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Love your quote ! A country girl I am too !

You can make pear sauce -- just like applesauce
Pear butter
Pear Pie -- I use my apple pie recipe

Canned pears

Pear cookies - well not really its a think pie. Roll out pie crust and line a small 11 x 7 pan with the crust and make pie filling(like apple pie) and make another crust for the top and bake. My kids loved this for a snack. Easier than pie to have on the go.

** Fresh pears chopped or sliced and added to salad greens!

** Pears cooked up as you would for canning along with lemon slices, then eat hot or chilled. Chilled is nice and refreshing with the lemon.

Here is a recipe I am always asked to make:

Pear Bread

3 eggs
1 1/2 cups sugar
3/4 cups canola oil
1 t. vanilla

Combine the above in a mixing bowl; mix well.

3 cups flour
2 t. baking powder
2 t. cinnamon
1 t. baking soda
1 t. salt

Combine the above in a separate bowl. Stir into the egg mixture just until moistened.

4 cups finely chopped peeled ripe pears (about 4 medium)
1 t. lemon juice
1 cup chopped walnuts

Toss pears with lemon juice. Stir pears and walnuts into batter.
350 55-60 minutes 2 greased loaf pans.

I use them just like apples. People have been raving over my "apple" butter for years not knowing they were eating pear butter. Pear crisp is a family favorite made from my canned pears. It's easy and delicious for a winter treat. Pear sauce is just as good as applesauce. Use your imagination and enjoy.
