Anyone have any green tomato recipes? I have a green tomato cake in the oven - if it turns out, I'll post the recipe. I didn't like fried green tomato when I was a child so I have no desire to try those. I found recipes for green tomato pie, but was concerned about the color as this isn't for me. Our nights are freezing and the tomatoes are still green. I use to make green tomato relish. Hmmm.

I dehydrate them, put them in the freezer, and crush a handful into homemade soup that I make in the winter.

That's interesting, what kind of flavor do you get from the dehydrated tomatoes in your soup? I'm interest in the recipes as well, I've got a bunch of green ones and our weather forecast sounds like they will stay green.

For some reason, our tomatos are still going. Unusual for us, but I'm not complaining, especially since the year started so late. I had to cover them once due to frost last week, but they're getting a little reprieve right now.

Our season usually ends really early, so what we do is grab the whole plant and hang it upside down from the rafters in the basement. The fruit will turn color on its own. For the ones that don't stay on the plant, spread newspaper on a shelf (or 5 - I always plant too many tomatos) and lay them on it. Check on them regularly.

I so wish I had green tomatoes to fry up. Didn't plant any this year and can't seem to find any place that sells them.

I put up some pickled green tomatoe's 2 weeks ago ... my first attempt. Pickled green tomatoe's were one of my favorite things when I was a kid, one of my aunts used to make them. I'm hoping mine are at least half as good as hers, if so ... I've got a lot more I can put up!!

We had a minor disaster in the tomato garden yesterday. Yesterday morning I noticed my dog's head was green (he's a white dog). I figured he was rolling in the grass. A little later my husband called me and said the dog's head was green and when he checked the garden the fence had been "compromised" and the dog ate ALL the ripe tomatoe's, and some of the red and orange bell peppers. Umm ... no he didn't. When I got home I checked the garden and found a critter foot print ... Raccoon I think from the print ... got into the garden and the dog must have chased him out (dog has access to the yard all night via dog door). Hopefully the raccoon got the scare of a life time and won't be coming back to our yard again.

As a precaution, I had to give the dog a "capstar" in case he picked up any flea's from said critter.
