DH likes granola bars so I looked around to see how to make them myself. These sound good and easy but I have not tried them yet.- credit to Families.com website.

4 cups oatmeal

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 Cup brown sugar

1/2 Cup honey

1 stick butter

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 and 1/2 Cups nuts, if desired

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix together oatmeal, salt, brown sugar in one bowl, set aside. In another bowl, mix honey, butter, vanilla, and nuts. Then combine the two mixtures. Pour into a greased square casserole dish. Bake for 15 minutes. Let cool then cut into squares.

Suggestions: You can add marshmallows, any kind of nuts that you like, chocolate baking chips or caramels, coconut, chocolate, etc. Anything that your child likes in their granola bars. If your child likes the chocolate coating, just melt your chocolate then pour over the mixture in the dish. Then bake. Enjoy.

I'll give this a try. I did make some years ago, and we liked the homemade ones.

I have made these and everyone likes them that tries them. They are very good--and for those who don't like honey, you can't taste it in the bars. You can do a lot with the basic recipe!

Can't wait to try these. I like the fact they don't use marshmallows. think I'll try adding dried fruit. like cranberries or maybe strawberries and bananas.
