    Default Mandel Bread Recipe

I seem to have lost my favorite Mandel Bread recipe and while there are several online, I'd like to find one that someone has made and likes. Does anyone have one to share? I love these cookies and hope to get a recipe in time for the holidays. Thanks for your help!

Sorry I am not familiar with the recipe you are asking about. Mandel Bread recipe? A bread or cookie?

It's called Mandel Bread, but it's a cookie. Usually the shape of biscotti.

I've never heard of it either, but if it's a cookie I'm game to try it! I'll watch and see if a good idea appears.

Just did a Google search. There are several recipes out on the internet. Hopefully you will find one that matches what you had. Some are Kosher too.

I know there are several online, I just want one that someone has tried before. Kosher doesn't matter to me....I'm not Jewish. :-)

    Try this one:
    Mandel ( almond) Bread
1/2 cup vegetable shortening or good quality margarine ( Nucoa or Blue Bonnet)
    1 c. water
    2 eggs, well beaten
    2 tsps vanilla
    1/2 tsp lemon juice
2 1/2 cups all purpose flour or pastry flour
    2 tsps baking powder
    1/2 tsp baking soda
    1/2 cup candied cherries
    1/2 cup raisins
    1/2 cup, almond slices
    cinnamon and sugar for topping

Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs, vanilla and lemon juice. Sift together dry ingredients and add to creamed mixture. Cut up cherries and add to mixture among with raisins and almonds. Wet hands and shape dough on greased cookie sheet into 4 strips. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar. Place on top rack of oven. Bake at 375 F for 20-25 mins. ( do not overbake or bread will dry out) slice while still warm into individual cookies.

Haven't tried this one personally however all the others i've done from this cookie cookbook are great.
