Anyone have a recipe for sugar free barbeque sauce?
My DH is diabetic and I am looking for a sugar free barbeque sauce recipe. I have tried a couple but they are not very tasty! :(
Thanks |
Start with a basic recipe omitting the sugar, use brown sugar splenda and crushed pineapple for flavor.
cook until thick. The brown sugar add to taste. LC |
add honey instead

I agree with Phyllis NM - I use either honey or agave for the sugar

I haven't made BBQ sauce but I make teriyaki sauce and use splenda in it. I also make blueberry pie and use all splenda. My husband just has to be careful on the size of pie he eats.
I don't use honey as it shoots his sugar way up. |
There is that Walden Farms BBQ sauce that is sugar free at most larger grocery stores. Also, if you made the recipe that one of the other members posted, you could use the Heinz sugar-free or low-sugar (can't remember exactly what it is) ketchup.

Thanks for all the ideas! I checked and both honey and agave are a no no for my DH. I will let you all know how my "adventures in BBQ sauce" turns out!

But honey is sugar for a diabetic.

what about using monk fruit sugar Dr oz recommends http://www.amazon.com/Purelo-Sweeten...&tag=recapo-20 Gale

I could not find if truvia is considered sugar for diabetics. its not sugar but does your body recognize it as such? pineapple would be very high in sugar hence why we love it so much I think :) that recipe above doesn't sound too bad actually the ketchup, garlic worchestershire is all in regular bbq OH your right! just read ketchup is high in sugar your totally on target. We like .. Italian dressing to put on as bbq sauce cooks marvelously gives it just the right zing.. um.. but red equals tomatos in bbq sauce. they are high in natural sugars too..
