Apple Hint
Although this isn't a recipe, I posted it here for when you do an apple pie recipe this fall. I used to peel my apples, quarter them to remove the cores, slice into wedges. I now..... peel my apples and take the whole peeled apple to my mandolin. I make one cut with my peeling knife from the one side of the apple almost to the core. This is so the first slices are not complete apple circles. Starting with the side with the cut down the middle, I run the apple down the slicer one side at a time (being careful to stop before hitting the core.) I get my apple slices ready for the pie in record time.

It's a great way to slice them ... and when doing scalloped potatoes too.
Good idea for the slice in the middle to make the slices a little smaller. |
QuiltE: I love my mandolin for scalloped potatoes also! I don't know why I didn't get one years ago because it makes vegtable preparation easier especially for stir fry.

I couldn't rationalize the expense and didn't think it would be anywhere near it's value. Then one time I had a PC party ... and "had" to spent the $ I'd earned, so it was on the list. Since then I'm a convert!! |
They are a great tool to have
