Dehydrator ideas?

I bought a used dehydrator a few months ago, and it saved our lives when I was given 20 pounds of onions! I keep hoping to find "That" deal on produce so I can put it up, but I haven't found anything yet. I've had luck dehydrating everything I've tried so far. I'm out of ideas. I love dried fruit and I had luck with "sun dried" tomatoes but haven't quite figured out how or why to dry other vegetables.

We don't eat meat so no "jerky" ideas please! But anything else is welcome!

How long does it take to do tomatoes and how do you do them. We have more then we can use so that would work since I have a dehydrater. I just have never used it much.

I do fruit leather from a frozen bag of strawberries i have done corn zuchinni and gawd knows what else threw the years I know there are recipe books out there I have an excalibur dehydrator it has vegtables at 135 and fruits at 130 temps but no recipe book, when I did things years past I think I just went by feel of the fruits and vegtables probably over dried vegtables for soup and such.

I have made dried apples. I just sliced them thin and put them in the Dehydrator for a few hours.

I don't remember how long it took. I probably over did them, because it was the first thing I tried! I didn't try to slice too thin, either. Normal sandwich thickness! I want to say about 24-hours, but that might be too long. I didn't peel them either, and I think you're supposed to peel them.

I just brushed some olive oil on them or a little bit of salt. Then I sprinkled some basil on them. They were very good. I keep my dried stuff in the freezer, just in case

Dry fruit pieces to put in baking. Put them in cookies, fruit cake, homemade granola bars etc.

my kids favorites were always the fruit leathers. we did lots of combinations. just be sure and add a bit of powdered vitamin c to preserve color and help preservation. also chop soup vegetables and dry them for adding to winter stews.

I have had a over abundance of green peppers this year. Have been dehydrating them. Makes a nice snack and have put them on pizza.

we do all sorts of fruits. but my kids favorite was the watermelon. just slice thin and dry. they were always snitching it out of the dehydrater before i could put it away, but it good fun for them.they would also snitch the bananas if i was making them. it got them to eat their friuts at least while having fun pulling one over on mom. (so they thought ) also for hamsters and small pets that can have veggies we would dry the celery leaves and apples for treats for them.. apricots were on of my favorites.my husbands of course was the beef jerky. i have a old recipe from back when you just dryed stuff in the oven on 200-250.the jerky made great xmas gifts for people like the ones at work to go along with their cards.

I do a lot of drying including making my own bread crumbs from bread or buns that might get old before I can get it used. I dry herbs, (make my own house blend) fruit, veggies. I don't can, so this is my way of preserving food. The internet is full of recipes for a dehydrator and how to use the dried items.

I used mine to dry apples for pies. I also dried hot peppers. You can then grind your own hot pepper flakes or just drop a whole one in a pot of beans or stir fry (remove before serving!).

When our Aldi store had 8 oz. tubs of mushrooms for 69 cents each, I dehydrated sliced mushrooms. I think I ran the dehydrator for about 10 hours. Lots of mushrooms make a container of about 2 cups! Amazing how much they shrink. Used later in soup, gravy and soaked in water or oil and put on pizza.

I have a dehydrator but have only used it to dehydrate chicken for dog treats . how do you keep the dehydrated products? freezer, or ziplockbags?

I dry lots of things. If you search the net you will find lots of info. I plan on trying to powder some of my dry veges and trying them into crackers and breads and muffins. I have a good food sealer and after my produce is dry and cool I seal them well until i need them. Oh by the way bugs can get into dried foods too. I freeze my dry foods for 3 days after sealing them. That will kill any possible inscects. I love my dryer!!
