i have celiac disease so decided to try a betty crocker gluten free, yellow cake mix. it is a 15 oz. mix. i also don't like to add melted butter, so thought i'd try hard butter and use my food processor to make a crumb topping. because this was a 15 oz. box -vs 9 oz., i decided to use 12 T. of butter, rather then 8. using my chopping blade, i mixed the cake mix with 12 T. of butter, and 1 T. cinnamon, and then put it in the refrigerator. i peeled/cored/sliced 9 gala apples (4.41#)..do not use the thinest slicer. i poured some vanilla into the sliced apples (did not measure 'cause i LIKE vanilla). i put the apples in the bottom of a 9x13 cast iron baking pan, and the refrigerated crumb topping (added walnuts maybe 1/2 c. chopped walnuts to the crumb mixure....my husband LOVES walnuts) over the apples. i baked this at 350 degrees for an hour....i was anxious to see how it turned out.....SCRUMPTIOUS. especially warm with some french vanilla ice cream. I hope this helps anyone who has celiac disease.

About 5 to 7 granny smith apples (or whatever you prefer), peeled, cored & thinly sliced
1 (9 ounce) package yellow cake mix
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1 stick real butter

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
2. Cut apple slices crosswise in half.
3. Place in pan; sprinkle with dry cake mix.
4. In small bowl, combine sugar & cinnamon; sprinkle over cake mix.
5. Drizzle with butter.
6. Bake 30 minutes or until topping is golden brown.

Thanks for sharing.
I made this this evening, but I did have to bake longer than 30 minutes..more like an hour. Maybe because I used a smaller cake pan, maybe 8 x 10 or so.
Haven't eaten any yet, probably for breakfast tomorrow.

my niece found this recipe for us about 15 yrs ago and my kids adored it. we would all go to a cabin in the mountains and this was a staple. each night my sis and I switched who cooked. four adults six kids.. no one wanted dinner duty every night :) so her daughter would make this for dessert and it was GONE in no time.. kind of cobbler like when its all cooked ..yum. forgot all about it. now I have to make it!
