German cherry pie

When I was little, our neighbor made a pie she called a German cherry pie. Had cherry pie filling but with spices, like you would put in apple pie (cinnamon, cloves, etc.) and a lattice top. Really good.
Has anyone heard of this, or have a recipe?

I have never heard of that pie...did a search on spicy cherry pie...came up with this one:

you could do a lattice top...hope that helps.

It sounds like Linzertorte. I use the recipe to make cut-out yummy Christmas cookies without the jam. But you can make round cut-outs with a layer of the cherry or plum filling in between.

Linzertorte
Note: This is an old recipe I updated - actually I always double the recipe, EXCEPT the amount of eggs I add, so that either the pie is bif enough or I get enough cookies out of it.

1 cup (150 gram ) ground almonds (can use blanched almonds)
1/2 cup (60 grams) whole hazelnuts

OR 250 gr - 300 gr (1 1/2 - 2 cups ground almonds altogether)

1 1/2 cups (195 grams) all purpose flour
2/3 cup (135 grams) granulated white sugar
Zest of one lemon (the yellow outer rind of the lemon that contains the fruit's flavor and perfume)
1heaping tsp cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
1/8 tsp nutmeg
1/8 tsp allspice
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
4 tablespoons (195 grams) cold unsalted butter cut into pieces

1 large egg white +
1 large egg
(Set aside the 1 egg yolk not used in pie crust)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 drops pure almond extract

Mix dry ingredients then add eggs and knead in butter pieces until dough is smooth and workable. Add more ground nuts and butter as needed. I do this right on the counter top.

Roll out on an almond or powdered sugared surface and roll out dough slightly thicker than a typical pie crust.

Place 3/4 of dough on a greased pie pan. Add your pie filling, actually you add traditionally jam spread nicely all over pie. Roll out rest of dough and place in thin strips across the jam filling.

Mix 1 tablespoon of milk with the egg yolk.
Spread this mixture evenly with a pastry brush over the lattice and any visible dough of the pie prior to baking.
Bake at preheated 350 degree oven for about 30 min - 40 for pie according to the recipe
and if you make cookies about 10-15 min.
If you make the cookies

Roll out dough like you would for sugar cookies
Place on greased cookie sheets
Spread the egg glaze on the unbaked cookies
Sprinkle with Non-Pareils or chocolate sprinkles
Then bake at 350 degree preheated oven for about 10 min or until golden brown
Place in tins once cooled
They stay well for several months
Enjoy!
I find that it is best to check the dough rather than depend on a set time the first time you bake it.
They should be only golden brown and not dark.
I have stopped making the pie and make annually the cookies, which have become a family favorite.

I will have to watch this as that pie sounds good. The cookies sound good too.
