Hot chocolate mix

I have a plethora of hot chocolate mix. I have tried using it in brownies but the sugar in it remained a little gritty. I am thinking of dissolving the choc. Mix in some hot water first and trying it again. Does anyone else have any other ideas.

If anyone is interested, the hot water did dissolve the choc. mix and they turned out fairly well. They are somewhat between brownie and blondie coloured. The next time I will decrease my sugar by a 1/4 cup because I forgot the choc. mix contains sugar.

Did you ever use just powdered cocoa? When I bake from scratch, that's what my recipes call for, of course, some of them are from an age there were no hot chocolate mixes. LOL!

That is what my Brownie recipe calls for but my daughter brought me home to giant Carnation hot chocolate canisters. I am talking enough hot chocolate mix to last until 2015 which is the expiration date. I wanted to try and use it in brownies. It worked out well dissolving1/2 a cup in about 1/4 cup of water from my kettle. I will decrease the sugar in my next batch but we have decided to call them Sandies because of the lighter colour. I was thinking of calling them Dirties ( colour of dirt) but somehow that just doesn't sound to appetizing.

True confessions time. When I'm having a chocolate craving, I mix hot chocolate mix into cool whip and eat it. It's like instant chocolate mousse.

You could put a couple of spoonsful into hot coffee too- makes a nice hot mocha. My son love this, with whipped cream of course.

If you really want to use this in brownies. It is best to use butter add you cocoa mix to this.
whip with mixer until the grit texture is gone then prepare you brownies. just have to cut back on some of the oil.

I even do this with box cake mixes. sometimes just to get the favored cocoa mix in the cake.

There ya go! Great idea. Just find a cute container with a snowman on it and add marshmallows, candy and cookies.
