If you haven't tried this yet you may want to' It's super easy and isn't easily messed up.
1//4 c. boiling water
1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. flour, sifted
1/2 t. baking powder
1/2 t. salt
Pour boiling water over sortening, beat until creamy.stir in dry ingredients . Form into a ball and chill for 2 hours. Roll out . Place in pie pan and bakeat 450 for 15 to 18 minutes. My 11 year old great granddaughter makes this and uses cherry pie filling. Really good.

I see you have two slashes in the measurement for the 1st ingredient (1//4 c boiling water), so I just wanted to verify that its 1/4 cup and not 1 1/4 cup.

It's 1/4.
1 1/4 would make soup out of it! :)

Hope that helped. I love baking and this is a great crust recipe

What type of shortening? What size does it make enough for top crust also? Thanks, Michele

I have to try this. My mother used to make pastry using boiling water and I often wished I had the recipe. Thanks for sharing!

I would think it would be like Crisco...at least that is what I use when I make pie crust.
