I want to loose some weight so started with my dog's favorite snack !

I eat and cook very healthy foods and exercise three times a week and my weight has been constant for the last five years. I want to lose, not stay the same, and to perk up my recipes to different things I usually don't cook to get over the boredom of the same healthy meals. I think the Hungry Girl recipes may be the choice. I bought the Hungry Girl to the Max cookbook. I made the brownie recipe first of course. LOL. It's very good and much better then depriving myself of a piece of my favorite from scratch cake. Only two ingredients, do not add anything else.

One box chocolate cake mix
1 can 15 oz pure pumpkin (not pie mix)

Stir until smooth, may take several minutes. Scoop into muffin tin lined with muffin papers. Bake 20 min at 400 degrees. She notes the aluminium muffin papers will not stick to the food as much as the paper ones.

My vet told me to give my dog a bit of pure canned pumpkin every day instead of a bought treat. He said it was very healthy for her and she will love it so I have canned pumpkin in the pantry all the time.

Interesting. I'll have to try it. Thanks.

Love, love, love Hungry Girl recipes ... I get her daily e-mail. I've lost 90 lbs on Weight Watchers and am in my second year as a 'lifetime' member. Hungry helps mix things up to make eating more interesting. I especially like her food finds e-mail!

Sadly, if I made that recipe, I would defeat the purpose and eat the whole thing when it came out of the oven. I even eat brownies straight out of the freezer. The only way I can NOT eat brownies is if I don't have any in the house!

An old neighbor of mine gave me a similar recipe years ago: Spice cake & pumpkin .. try it in cupcakes its good with either whipped cream or chocolate over it .. OR try some dark chocolate chips in it .. YUMMY !!!

Pumpkin is a squash so it can't be bad for you! I have heard of it for dogs. Fiber and carotene. good stuff!

Great snack! Just remember dogs shouldn't have chocolate!
I recently paid a $400 vet bill when I forgot about a bag of donuts with chocolate frosting in the car and left the dog in there with it while I ran into another store!!

What kind of fats does the cake mix have? I need to lose a few kilos and am watching sugar/fat content as well as upping fibre. I have a dreadful sweet tooth and whilst I'm not overweight, I have joint problems so a leaner me should equate to less pain. Well that's the theory:)

The cookbook has 650 recipes. Some are rather repetitive but of the ones I've tried are tasty and easy to prepare. The recipes have put an interesting spin on my everyday cooking. The brownies after a day seemed rather dry but I put a little water on one, put it in the microwave for 15 seconds and it was better then fresh baked. DD put orange juice on one and microwaved it, loved it.
