We will be doing some camping this summer (hopefully it will cool off soon!!) and I am searching for some new and tasty meal ideas. We have a camp stove and a dutch oven to use. My DH usually does the cooking since it is over a fire and I am in charge of getting it ready and cleaning up. I know you quilters out there are good for at least one or two. What do you say?
I've attached a picture of our small trailer. It is called a "Tear Drop" trailer but we call her "Sylvia". We would prefer a tent but DH and I both have C-Pap machines so we need electric. There is just enough room inside for a queen-size air mattress (no we can't stand in it). The back lifts up and reveals a small storage or kitchen area. We like it and it does cause lots of talk on the road and in the campground!

I'd LOVE to have a teardrop!! I think they're just adorable...but then again, I kinda like the potty and shower in my Starcraft! ;)

We ONLY cook in dutchovens when we camp, and I have tons of recipes...altho you can cook ANYTHING in your Dutch oven that you can cook in your kitchen...I've even made ice cream in one!

Last year we baked cakes and cupcakes in an cardboard box oven! Just google campfire recopies and you will find tons. I made a camping cookbook but it is my camping gear. A roast potatoes and carrots in a dutch oven over the fire is great!

My Mom used to make something she called Hobo Dinners. It's just sliced potatoes, carrots, onions and a hamburger patty wrapped in foil with a tablespoon of butter & salt and pepper to taste. Easy clean up and super easy to make.

kathyd,
Does your dutch oven have the lip on it so you can put coals on the top? We use to do a lot of dutch oven cooking when my boys were growing up and in scouts. I have three cookbooks for dutch oven cooking, so I'll dig them out tomorrow and post a few for you. We would cook our main meal in one with coals on top and our small oven sitting on that one with a dessert. What fun we had. I love your tear drop camper.

We actually have a couple of Dutch ovens (when mom moved to assisted living and when grandma died I got the ones they had) One has a domed lid, one has a glass lid and two (one is a 2 qt, great for desserts) have the lids with lips and feet on the bottom. DH used to be involved in scouts so he is familiar with cooking in Dutch ovens.

We have a small camping community set up on private land. Between my mom, brother and I. We can have anywhere from 6 to 17 people at a time there. We all have our own little campsites (private areas) but we all gather at our campsite for breakfast and my brothers for dinners. (We only eat two meals a day) We all bring our own meat for the grill, but..we take turns for side dishes. We do this pretty much every weekend in the summer. You can cook EVERYTHING you can at home..at the campsite. We have made cakes, baked spuds, american fries, mashed, pizza, pies, (apple is the best...so yummmy) We do not use special or different recipes for them. So anything you cook at home, can be made camping.

Here's a recipe I was given by a camper. It's kind of a main dish dip. Just bring tortilla chips.
