My mother made this also, mine never tastes quite as good as hers....vinegar, sugar, sm amt of water..
We have been using cukes, red onions, tomatoes, with balsamic dressing on it also...very good.

My kids loved the vinegar/sugar/salt/pepper recipe on cucumbers without the onions. One son enjoyed it so much he used to beg to drink the vinegar after the cucumbers were done. I must have put too much sugar in it!!!--HaHa

Hi.....have any of you tried Newman's balsamic vinegar and olive oil?? The best! I also use about equal parts vinegar and water, with a touch of salt, for the cucumbers/tomatoes/onion concoction! Don't usually put sugar in it, but will try that suggestion.

A timely post I can use as my neighbor shares his crop of cucumbers with me every year.

I do cukes, thinly sliced with sour cream and equal parts (or to taste) vinegar and sugar

I grew up in an Amish area. We put a little celery seed in the mix and you can add a touch of sugar. Good luck!

I am from Wrightsville and my long time friends are the Wolfs. Funny to see a post from Mt Wolf

A way to fix cucumbers. Use rice vinegar a little sweetner and some ginger if you like. The rice vinegar is milder and you do not need to use water. Also just sprinkle the vinegar over them, not soak them in it. They stay nice and crisp for a couple of days.

Our family recipe calls for 1 cup sugar, 1/2 cup cider vinegar and 1/2 cup water. We heat it to completely dissolve the sugar then let it come to room temperature. We like the English, no seed cucumber sliced thin with an onion sliced thin as well. While the vinegar mixture is cooling we lightly salt the cucumbers then drain liquid off when vinegar mixture is cooled. When cool the vinegar mixture is stirred into the cucumbers. At this point you may or may not add diced, fresh tomatoes...we like the little Italian tomatoes . You may use more than 1 cucumber if they are not large
