Plain Brown Popper
 

Microwave popcorn is very bad for you, but it's sooooo easy..so here is homemade microwave popcorn

Ingredients

1/4 cup good quality popcorn
2 teaspoons olive oil or butter ( used one t)
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt or popcorn salt
optional you can add any spice or seasoning you like.
Paper lunch bag
tape

Directions

Toss the popcorn with the olive oil or butter, salt, in the paper bag. Fold the top of the bag over and tape the bag twice to close. Place the bag in the microwave and microwave on high for 2 minutes to 3 minutes, or until there are about 5 seconds between pops.

NOTE: Popcorn salt is a super-fine salt that is designed especially for sticking to food such as popcorn. It has the taste of regular table salt, but its granules are much finer.

I make it au naturel ... just the popcorn in the bag, no add-ins.
And I just fold the top over a couple of times ... no tape.

Will have to try it with the add-ins.

I do it with out adding anything, too
I usually use about 2 T popcorn
roll the bag down and wedge it in the microwave.

Be careful, the bag can catch on fire in the microwave. I had a few come out with scorch marks.

I was just about to mention this, I actually had a bag catch on fire in the microwave once. Its the dust that is in the popcorn that actually catches on fire. If this occurs, what ever you do dont open the door, this just gives the fire oxygen to burn. I had to replace the top inside of my microwave. It could have been a whole lot worse so now I just stick to the bags you buy with popcorn in them for popping.

So long as you don't overcook it, you should be fine.
As the original OP stated, you stop when there is about 5 seconds between pops.
Likewise when doing the commercially prepared bagged popcorn.

You just need to get to know how much popcorn for the length of time works best, for your own microwave.
