I have been making this recipe for about 45 years. But my recipe book called it TUNA ON A SHOE STRING. It is a refreshing salad on a hot summer day.

Shoestring potatoes? Will anyone clue me in on this?

They are thin potato strips in a can. I think they're on the potato chip aisle. My son used to love them when he was little.

Isn't it funny how you talk about something and then soon after you see what you were talking about?
Took mom for some appointments earlier today and we stopped at WalMart so she could pick up a few things. Well, we were walking down the aisle between the food section and the kids clothing, and low and behold a HUGE display of 3 pound cans of Shoestring Potatoes LOL. Mom thought I had lost my mind I started giggling so hard my eyes watered. I don't think I could make that much Shoestring Potato Salad in a year, unless of course it was for a big ole quilting board quilting bee LOL

There used to be great cookie-like things made with shoestring potatoes, too - you melted butter and butterscotch chips, then used it to coat potato sticks and walnuts. I think they were called porcupines. They were sweet and salty, and never lasted long.
