Yes, just mix by hand til moist. No need for frosting. As mine didn't bake well in the center, it was gooey. the outside edges were baked well and tasted ok. I won't make it again , as obviously I think it would bake better in an angel good pan.
It just takes much longer to bake than you expect. You have to keep baking it till a toothpick comes out dry and until the cracks in the center of the cake are dry. Mine took almost twice as long as it said on the box, it was very brown on top but didn't burn anything. And the brown part was yummy chewy. I served it with light whipping cream and it was a nice touch but not needed at all. Frosting would be way too sweet I think.
Just wanted to let eveyone know that I made this using crushed pineapple & it was GREAT. I did also have to bake it about 40-45 minutes until done. It still sank in the middle when it cooled, but was so very good. Can't wait to try it with different pie fillings. The only thing I didn't do was "grease" the pan & it was just fine, one less thing to do. LOL. I also used a 9x13 pan. Thanks for sharing this recipe.
It will all depend on the size of piece ... and the specifics of the apple pie filling as well as the angel cake mix. Not all cans/boxes would be the same for NI, thus for PPV.
Your DD could easily calculate the WW PPV with the NI on the packaging, and the number of pieces of cake.
I have made this twice. The first time, I hand mixed it and all the fruit settle to the bottom. The second time I used the mixer and the fruit was evenly mixed throughout. Both times I only baked 25minutes per instructions.
To cool, I put a cookie rack on the table (just in case) with two cans of vegetables on either side to balance the cake, upside down. Worked wonderfully.
I just made one of these cakes and I cannot believe how delicious it is. My taste buds are singing. DH rolled his eyes and moaned with delight.
