Super easy cake using only two ingredients

A friend sent this to me and it's in the oven right now and smells amazing.

l box Angel food cake
1 can apple pie filling.

Mix both together and put into a greased 9 x 13 cake pan in a 350 degree oven and bake for 20-25 minutes.

Honestly, that's the entire recipe and so nice to keep both ingredients in the house in case of unexpected guests.

Wow, sounds super yummy, i can smell it now...ill be right over

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 09-08-2012 01:10 PM

I do it with crushed pineapple. I still use an angel food pan, though. It might fluff up too much for 9 x 3. Very light and refreshing.

grammydar 09-08-2012 01:12 PM

Well How does it taste?
do you mix it thoroughly or just until moist?
Did you frost it?
Cant wait to try it, but it will have to wait til tomorrow I think!

QuiltE 09-08-2012 05:34 PM

It's a great recipe .... and can be whipped up ever-so-quick when you need a cake, as you can keep the ingredients in your pantry awaiting the sudden panic attack.

And yes ... as you discovered, any pie filling works.
The cherry is so nice and pink, with the large cherries ... delicious for sure.
Let your imagination run wild!!!!!! :)

When doing apple ... I always add more cinnamon, just because I like it.
Plus I usually cut the apples in the pie filling. Not necessary, just that I like to spread them around throughout the cake more.
And I like them done in the angel cake pans.

If you want Black Forest Cake .... mix 1/3 cup bakers cocoa into the angel cake mix, then mix in the cherry pie filling. A little whipped cream to garnish at serving ...... and OMG!!!!! :)

Just use the temperature and times as noted on your angel cake box ... and be sure to hang it upside down after backing, as you would an angel cake.

ENJOY!!!!!!!

I was thinking about the cherry too but suppose the pineapple would be good too. Bring on the ice cream, might as well go all out. Sounds delicious.

I've used this with blueberry pie filling. I think it was in one of my Weight Watchers weekly handouts back when I went to WW. Yummy recipe!

Neesie 09-08-2012 07:06 PM

Gonna have to try this! Sounds heavenly!!!

Quilt-Till-U-Wilt 09-09-2012 04:53 AM

Black Forest Cake!!! I know I'll be trying that.

snow 09-09-2012 05:03 AM

I made one with punkin pie filling with a carrot cake very good just mix together and bake.

matraina 09-09-2012 05:43 AM

Sounds like a Weight Watcher recipe. You can use any flavor of pie filling; and, of course, if you're a WW, you use "light".

Sweeterthanwine 09-09-2012 06:37 AM

Wow - this couldn't be more simple. Going to try it with the blueberry pie filling which I have on hand right now. Thanks for sharing your find............

The box will say something like "turn upside down and suspend til it cools".
For an angel cake pan, depending on the hole size, it may fit over a soda bottle.
If not, you can do it by arranging some tin cans to hold the pan while it cools.
Likewise for other shapes of pans.

Let me be clear on this one. Do you mix the angel food cake according to directions and then fold in the pie filling? And what about the pineapple one--do you drain the juice from that before adding? They all sound wonderful.

bstock 09-09-2012 10:57 AM

This sounds wonderful!!! Thanks for sharing !!

Dakota Girl 09-09-2012 11:36 AM

I have a stupid question........You just mix the dry angel food mix with the pie filling and bake?? It puffs up on it's own? Looks yummy and sounds so easy !! I can hardly wait to try it......THANK YOU for the recipe.

zennia 09-09-2012 11:40 AM

Sounds like something I will have to make and take to my next quilt get together.

No and No!! :)

Just One box of cake mix and one can of pie filling
OR
Just One box of cake mix and one can of undrained crushed pineapple.

Do not add water!
Do not pass GO!! :)

Then bake for the times on the box as per the size/shape of pan(s) you have used.

:D I know ... it's all too simple to believe it is possibly for real!!! :D
............ but it is!!!! :)

As a Weight Watcher, I was very intrigued when I saw Angel Food cake!! That is one W.W. treat I allow myself on the weekends. Thank you so much to everyone for all the fantastic varieties. I am presently down 37 pounds, four dress sizes and my knees DON'T HURT ANYMORE!! Life is great - I've just turned 60 and celebrated by going Zip Lining at Hunter Mountain in New York!! There will be Apple Angel Food Cake for dessert Saturday!

looks soo good.

AshleyR 09-10-2012 02:08 AM

This is the only way I make cakes! sooo good! I use any cake mix and any canned fruit. Have never tried one and thought "ugh, won't fix that combo again". We call them "Dump cakes" because you just dump the stuff in a pan. If you like a cake, like above, you mix then pour. If you like a cobbler, dump the fruit in (save some of the syrup), then dump the cake mix on top. Sprinkle the leftover syrup on top and bake.

OK another silly question. Do you use the drained pineapple with the angel food mix or the cake mix or both?

I use one 18 ounce box yellow cake mix (dry) and 4 to 5 tsps. pumpkin pie spice to create the spice cake mix.

Combine above with one 15 ounce can solid pumpkin.

For mental health improvement, fold in one cup semi-sweet chocolate chips.................*disclaimer: not low calorie

Place in baking container. Sprinkle lightly with cinnamon/sugar mixture to improve appearance.

Bake 350 degrees F for 20-25 minutes. Makes 24 cupcakes/muffins

I can personally say it's great. While just a little too sweet for my taste, my DH loved it and ate 1/2 of it in one sitting.

When I first put the two ingredients together I thought no way this is going to be wet enough to pour into a pan but amazingly it was.

I wouldn't frost it myself, would only make it sweeter, but DH topped his with whipped cream.

Good for you! I just started with WW and need some tips for recipes, especially snacks that are low in points as my tummy rumbles a lot before meals. :)

Grammy-Gram 09-10-2012 08:08 AM

I recently started doing the Weight Watchers program again and this was one of the recipes the leader brought in. Her recipe called for the box of angel food cake and light blueberry pie filling and then, each two inch square is only 2 points for those of us on WW. I tried it with Light Cherry pie filling because I couldn't find the light blueberry and let me tell you, this is absolutely delicious. I have to admit that I love Angel Food cake anyway, but this is very, very good and it's so nice to know that it is something we can really enjoy and still stay on program. Lucille

I am going to make this tomorrow!
