Wrap your celery in Aluminum Foil - it lasts forever!

I have discovered that if you wrap your celery and lettuce in AF it last longer. I have fresh celery from Thanksgiving in my fridge!! I am amazed. We use our lettuce too quickly for me to see if it works as well, but it does help it.

Joyce DeBacco 01-10-2013 03:08 PM

Yes, my daughter told me that and I tried it. It really does work well.

susiequilt 01-10-2013 03:13 PM

Definably the celery works in foil but never tried it with lettuce.

4EVERquilt 01-10-2013 09:57 PM

I'm going to try this, thanks!

grandmahoney 01-11-2013 04:40 AM

I will try this. Thanks for the hint.

MamaHen 01-11-2013 05:09 AM

I'll also try it, my celery always goes bad before I get to use it all. Thanks for the tip.

Sue Wagley-Thompson 01-11-2013 05:21 AM

Thank you for the information!

I just chop mine and freeze it. It still works great when cooking.

I have also found that if you wrap your lettuce in wet paper towels and put in vegetable drawer in fridge it lasts longer

skjack 01-11-2013 07:39 AM

do you take it out of the plastic before wrapping in in AF? I can never keep celery.. thanks

TexasGurl 01-11-2013 08:45 AM

Thanks for the tip, Corky ! I haven't heard of this before ...

Also, just the other day I saw a tip online - if you put a metal FORK in the container or bag with a head of lettuce (also the pre-bagged kind) it keeps much longer ... ?? Has anyone heard of this or tried it ?

Handcraftsbyjen 01-11-2013 10:04 AM

I knew about celery, but not lettuce. Thanks!

luciab 01-11-2013 12:25 PM

Talk about perfect timing. I just bought some celery today for a recipe but won't be using nearly as much as I have. Thanks a million for this helpful hint!

Thanks, and thanks Sparkys_mom - never thought of freezing it! We lovr the green bags!!! Keeps lettuce, carrots, etc fresh forever!

Works really great to put left over cut onion in tin foil also. Keeps it fresh. I will surely try putting the celery in TF. Thanks for the tip.

Someone in my weight watchers class just mentioned this method today! Must be true. Thanks

katesnanna 01-12-2013 08:17 PM

I wrap celery in alfoil but haven't tried it with lettuce. I am going to try this as I get cranky about throwing lettuce out.

alabam49 01-13-2013 08:16 PM

You can also make your cucumbers last longer doing this very same thing!! Don't peel, just wrap with AF!

lfstamper 01-13-2013 08:26 PM

I wrap lettuce in newspaper and celery in foil. both work great.

My friend showed me this little trick and it works. I will definitely try the AF for the celery though. Thanks for the tip!

My MIL told me to do this but I ended up with a bunch of soggy, slimy, disgusting lettuce. Wonder what I did wrong.

valleyquiltermo 01-14-2013 06:51 PM

I think I'd worry about the ink from the newspaper ruinning my lettuce. Going to try AF for my celery, onions a cucumbers. Thanks

J Carol 01-16-2013 08:01 AM

Great tip as celery has gotten quite expensive around here! Thanks for the tip.

ScrapQuilter 01-16-2013 10:28 AM

I put a couple of patter towels in the bottom of a tupperware bowl and burp the cover can keep lettuce fresh and crisp for several weeks. Put the core end down............

KayS 01-16-2013 09:35 PM

Does the celery last longer in foil than the Tupperware keeper?

nativetexan 01-25-2013 07:24 PM

Well doggie. Wish i'd seen this earlier. thanks.

iamjanet 02-09-2013 11:09 AM

I also wrap cheese in aluminum foil -- lasts much longer.

Bobbielinks 02-09-2013 11:57 AM

Wonderful tip! Several weeks ago I was reading that celery helps to lower blook pressure, so I have been eating a lot of it lately. Now I know how to keep it fresh when I buy a lot on sale.

SewExtremeSeams 02-09-2013 12:07 PM

I will try this and check back.
