I have always been lazy and bought them from that mall shop that is only opened during the holidays. They were always very good.

Hickory farms had the best. Go to the FoodNetwork, they always have many this time of year. I keep forgetting I have a crab ball. Hope it's still good. Will have to check.

I have one that uses Mexene Chili Powder. It's my go to recipe. DH eats it by the spoon.

Mexene Cheese Ball

18 oz grated cheddar cheese
1 small grated onion
4 (8oz) pkgs cream cheese
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
3 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
1/2 cup finely chopped pecans
Mexene chili powder.

Let cream cheese and cheddar cheese soften, mix all ingredients except the chili powder. Roll into logs or balls. Makes 3 (4 inch) balls. Wrap in plastic wrap and let meld in the refrigerator at least overnight.

I put on plastic gloves and mix by hand, it makes it easier to roll into balls and the powder. I haven't tried any other chili powders, I have always found the Mexene. It's has a blue label and is in a round column type jar with a blue lid.

My favorite is;

2 - 8 oz cream cheese
1 - cube of butter
1 - package ranch dressing seasoning (Uncle Ben's is great)
Chopped nuts

Cream cheese and butter should be at room temperature. Cream butter and cream cheese then add ranch dressing. Chill until easy to mold into a ball. Cover with nuts.

Hope me you enjoy!

Here is the cheese ball that we always make.

1 - 8oz brick of cream cheese
1 jar Kraft Roka Blue Cheese
1 jar Kraft Old English Cheese
1-3 Tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
1/2 - 1 teaspoon Lawry's Seasoning Salt

Mix ALL ingredients until WELL blended, chill until firm.
Shape into ball (or divide into smaller balls), roll in chopped
walnuts (if desired).

Serve with crackers.

These are the Kraft cheese spreads needed.
