I have used goop handcleaner without pumace and an electric toothbrush to scrub crinkle finish. It works well, just have a roll of paper towels handy, sometimes the gunk is thick.

I make them with 2 pieces of flannel, 36 inches square, add some decorative stitching for the quilting, about 3 or 4 rows, mothers love them and they wash well

Jenny of MQ says they don't need to match and just sew them up anyway. Even with sashing they still don't line up, it still makes a wonderful quilt

My great grandmother used hers turned over to set the baby in while she sewed. We have a picture of grandfather sitting in it....
