If you rotary cut your pieces correctly. Stitch a consistant 1/4 seam. That leaves the pressing.
Are you ironing or pressing? Sounds to me you are 'ironing'
your quilt pieces, thus getting them...

I would buy a darker blue, not try to match what you have. Use the darker blue for your border and for your binding.
By going darker you will frame your quilt top.

I always buy yardage, I have never bought FQ. I think you get more for your money and always have yardage leftover for another quilt as well as adding fabric to your stash.
I usually buy 1/2 yard...
