I use the Nifty Notions rulers, I think it make QUICK work of them and there not alot of sewing, cut sew, square up. It's cut sew and done. :) Allows for great points too IMHO. :)

Alex Anderson has her "Start Quilting" book and DVD that is nice to have. Goes through all of the tools you need, why you need them. It's a nice beginners series IMHO. :)
