I wish I had more time with my grands too, 8 to 12 yrs of age is the best time for them to learn. Once they get into teens, things change for them. I guess that's just life!

You can definitely add more on each side...I would use a wider strip of black on the sides and a narrower strip on the bottom and top. It will balance it out nicely. Great job too, by the way.
