I have used rowenta irons for many years and always use half distilled water and half tap water. I have never had any problems unless the iron got dropped.

I just bought a featherweight and am looking through the manual. It show's about 40 spots that need a drop of oil everyday if you sew a lot and oil every few day's if you don't sew that much....
