Thankyou very much. I’ve now realised that:
1. My machine is actually a 201
2. I don’t want to sell it!
I got it set up and did a bit of sewing to check it was OK, and it ran so beautifully and...

I’m preparing to sell the 1951 301 that I bought a few years ago, as I haven’t used it as much as I’d hoped. I could with a copy of the manual - does anyone know where I might download one? I’ve...

Thankyou. I do wait for the starch to soak in, but you’re right - I don’t let it dry. I would have to become much better than I am about planning ahead! (I don’t have a dryer). But this is well worth...

I don’t always use it, because of this problem, but when I’m dealing with fabric cut on the bias or fabric that’s not of the best quality, the stiffness it gives does help.

Several recommendations for these - I’ll have to see if I can get them here in the UK. If not, one of my US friends may get an unusual Christmas present request!

Good idea. I think I’m going to have buy a new iron, as the old one is past being cleanable. This might help me keep the new one clean.

Using starch - cleaning the iron afterwards

I’ve been using a lot of starch on my current project because it needs to be very accurate and includes a lot of sewing on the bias. Now my iron is leaving dirty marks on the fabric. I think it’s too...

Thanks. My older Janome doesn’t have the looped metal bar on the left, which makes it much easier. The picture in the manual suggested that the place on the presser foot where the screw is inserted...

This one is worse than that. Even if I forget about the foot holder and just try to get the screw into place on the presser bar, it won’t go. It’s as if the screw is too long (and I did check that I...

Good idea - Thankyou. I’ve trued to compare mine with the manual, but the latter only has drawings, so I’m not sure how accurate it is.

Can’t replace the foot holder on Janome 7700

I’ve been using the dual feed foot on my 7700 for quite a while, and yesterday took it off (which seemed rather fiddly, but I did manage it) and went to put the foot holder back on. But there’s no...

Hand piecing : book or Web resource?

A friend has asked me if I’ll help her to make her first quilt, using fabric from her late husband’s shirts. Of course I said I’d be honoured to help, but now she’s rather flummoxed me by saying...

Thankyou. I’ve done my circles on this wall hanging (used the walking foot, fairly successfully) but I’ll keep these for future reference as, having dared to try circles, I’d like to do so again...

I’ve just given the thumb tack method a try. It’s very clever! It worked quite well - the beginning and end of my circle didn’t quite meet, but this was my first attempt. I had a problem with the...

So far I’m finding the circles I’m doing with the walking foot are more successful than the FMQ ones: I’m finding it difficult to get into a rhythm with the FMQ, and my stitches are terrible. But...

Yes, it’s very difficult to see what I’m doing with my walking foot. In that respect, FMQ was easier, because I’ve got a foot with a transparent disc - had a great view of where I was up to. Now I...
