Jon, they predate sliced bread :)

I really do want it as a treadle but I think I'll wait for one with a nicer finish. I'm fine if we never get another electric machine (though herself is talking...

Thanks, folks. I'm still on the fence about it. On the plus side, the cabinet was fine and the movement of the machine looked good. Easily found shuttles and bobbins is good too. On the minus...

Question Davis New Vertical Feed questions

We saw a vertical feed machine for the first time today. Cool action! The finish on the machine seemed very thick and it was pebbled/alligatored almost to the point of reminding me of a crinkle...

Sorry, but no. There may be others that will work with a Singer but not in the general case. No idea where you are but if you near southern Wisconsin I've got a base or two to get rid of.

A nice Singer no. 21 drawing room cabinet in light oak heads my list. If it housed a wings decaled 115 or 201k in excellent shape then so much the better. Other than that, hand crank machines and...

No input on the 230 (though I know a couple of people here have them - is it the Automatic version?) but I'm interested in feedback on the 130, makitamama.

It just struck me that I have this backwards. OOPS! The drive wheel will need to be three times the size of the machine's belt track or it will have to be geared up. Gearing it up is possible but...

Kitty, I don't see myself as saving them from scalpers, more like saving them from fates like that of he 15 clone that got smeared with paint in a pseudo-camouflage pattern. That and saving them...

Yeah, I'm thinking forward would work better. You'd need a shaft supported by a bearing in the middle - attach the pulley to the left side and the crank arm to the right. Mount the whole thing high...

Singer and I think New Home were still making vibrating shuttle machines into the 50's. After all - the design had been working for decades and the tooling was paid off! Same thing as keeping going...

I wonder.... You're starting with a new box so there's no reason not to modify it some, right? I wonder if you could mount a pulley 1/3rd the size of the machines belt track on the base and have...

All 128's use long bobbins. Wood glues vary by purpose - for repair use I'm fond of Gorilla Glue but Titebond is well thought of, too, and works better if you will be refinishing.

The corner blocks were just glued on to start with - regluing is the ticket there.

Looks like a 128 to me. That electrical gizmo I believe is the control box for a knee actuator that would feed through the hole in the front of the box.

If the box is falling apart you should be...

Kitty, first - the 128 won't fit a box made for a full-sized Singer. The hinges are in the wrong place. To remove the machine from the hinges tilt it back and loosen the set screws that bears on...
